Urgent Response to Crisis on Manus

We’re calling on Perth to mobilise
for a series of daily emergency actions
in response to the crisis on Manus.

First target: Parliament house

*Action details to be provided onsite!* Bring a friend or 5.

Today PNG police and immigration, under the supervision of ABF, entered the Manus camp and destroyed all makeshift wells and water-tanks. Everything the men have been using to help them survive during the past fortnight has been destroyed.

Proper access to food, water, medicine and power ceased as of 31 October but the men have decided they would rather die inside the prison camp they’ve been held in for the past four years than be sent to yet another prison. They have been given another 48 hour notice to leave the camp or risk being moved by force. Men fear further violence and have implored “Please help us. Please pray that this will not be like February 2014!” THIS IS URGENT.

Kurdish journalist, Behrouz Boochani articulated, “We won’t put up with being incarcerated anymore. We have no energy left to go from this prison to another prison. We haven’t committed any crime and we can’t tolerate prison any longer…conversations are driven by one thing, and one thing only, and that is freedom. Only freedom…This is not about the prison itself and the conditions of imprisonment. It is about freedom.”

Inspiring actions have been taken in Sydney and Melbourne over the past week and we call on Perth to step up and show the men on Manus that we too rise with them and will echo their pursuit for freedom, safety and justice.
